Crisis

neon and rusty steel, 170x600cm - 2014

The word "Crisis" is ubiquitous. It carries a different meaning and history for each individual. In the broader societal context, it is a reality that, unfortunately, in many parts of the world, is associated with wars, famine, and suffering. But it also reflects the personal crises of each individual.
"Crisis" comes from the Greek word meaning "decision." Every crisis is also an opportunity for new choices – a moment that can allow for change and a fresh start.
In the installation, this concept is translated into a neon work projected onto the floor. A brief note from the artist appears in large, handwritten letters. The neon text, glowing like heated wire across the ground, makes the word "Crisis" tangible in a direct and clear way, prompting a reflection on the meaning of the word and the space for decision it holds.
