Nasan Tur
(*1974 in Offenbach, lives and works in Berlin)
Nasan Tur is a multidisciplinary artist whose work operates at the intersection of public space and institutional art contexts. Deeply engaged with the political and social conditions of our time, he creates experimental situations that reveal ideologies, social norms, and behavioral codes—inviting reflection and opening up new possibilities for individual agency.
His practice spans performance, installation, video, and sculpture, often drawing on gestures, language, and imagery found in media and urban environments. Tur’s work addresses contemporary social tensions, exploring both collective struggles and personal vulnerability. Central themes include resistance, freedom of expression, and the ethical complexities of activism.
Frequently using his own body as a medium, Tur stages performances that deal with risk, failure, endurance, and self-exposure—combining seriousness with irony and subtle humor. His works oscillate between critique and empathy, provoking thought without prescribing solutions.
Nasan Tur has participated in major international exhibitions such as documenta14, the 10th Istanbul Biennial, the 6th Taipei Biennial, and Manifesta 16. His work has been shown at institutions including Palais de Tokyo, Centre Pompidou (Paris), Schirn Kunsthalle (Frankfurt), Hamburger Bahnhof (Berlin), Städel Museum (Frankfurt), and MAXXI Museum (Rome). He is the recipient of the Will Grohmann Prize from the Academy of Arts in Berlin (2012) and held a residency at Villa Massimo in Rome (2014).
He currently serves as professor at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig (HBK).
